Sunken Underground Meter Base Repair
Is the meter base on the outside of your house pulling away from the wall? This is called a “sunken underground,” and it is an unsafe condition that needs proper repair. Cooper Electric fixes sunken undergrounds throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
You Own the Meter Base, Not Duke Energy
Duke Energy owns the electric meter, but the homeowner owns the meter base (also called the meter socket) that the meter plugs into. When the ground settles over the years, or the fasteners that hold the meter base to the wall fail, the underground service pulls the meter base away from the house.
Why It Is Dangerous
A sunken underground can cause the wiring to short out at the meter. Connections inside the meter base can also fail, which may cause power problems in your home. Many homeowners first learn about the problem when Duke Energy visits and notices the meter base pulling from the house.
How We Repair It
- We correct the sunken underground and properly secure or replace the meter base
- We pull the electrical permit and coordinate the inspection with the local electrical inspector
- We coordinate any required outage with Duke Energy. Duke does not attach a new meter base to your home, so a licensed electrician must do this work
